I can remember hitting up my public library as a youngster scanning through the monthly Lowrider magazine and being amazed with the culture, style, and beauty of Lowriders. It was this fascination that drove my interest in the arts, both audio and visual, as well as in automobiles. Came to find out later on that the Lowrider culture started out of the south Bay, in San Jose. All stemmed out of the Story & King intersection! My how far you’ve come.

For those of you who are interested and able, the above image will direct you to Optimistic’s art show tonight in Emeryville that will also serve as a benefit sale for Ras Terms, an Oakland-based artist. Health matters folks, unfortunately it ain’t cheap.
Ras Terms was very recently involved in a car accident. The car he was in along with his partner was struck by a speeding car that was evading the police. The right side of his body was completely swollen. Terms is a full time artist and thus receives no benefits or insurance. You are the only community there is to help him pay for his medical bills and to assist him while he is not able to work.

As of late, transition with the new day job has been keeping me occupied. Nonetheless I understand the need to keep updates consistent, and I’m a firm believer in actions speaking louder than words. However in this case the artists in this week’s I Got Five On It do a great job of using words, along with sound, to paint interesting perspectives.

Bay Area freshman, Roach Gigz, drops his anticipated mixtape Roachy Balboa. Unique high pitch voice and all, the kid has talent. An acquired taste without a doubt, the drugged up Roach is grindin’ away at his debut solo album, set to drop soon. Be that as it may, the kid is currently bringing a different sound to the chemically-enhanced turf party music. Also, keep your eyes & Reader peeled for DJ Amen’s Bay Freshman 10 for 2010, where Roach has made the list along with nine other Bay Area artists set to blow. Get Active!

Now just so we get this straight, the shoes themselves don’t produce music. Sorry to burst your bubble. This is however attempting to display just how flexible these running shoes really are. Oh Nike, how will you market next? Regardless, the Japanese duo HIFANA team up with the shoe beast for this visual treatment. I bet you shoe heads are wetting your pants over them nike shoe box speakers. Am I right?
