If you asked me who my favorite artists were at the age of five, I would have quickly responded with Janet Jackson, Oingo Boingo, and Digital Underground, natch. I had a bad habit of running around screaming “just grab ‘em in the biscuits!” and kindergarten was merely a way for me to bide my time until I was tall/old enough to become a back-up dancer in the Rhythm Nation.

Music, for better or for worse (I mean, shit, I might be admitting right here and now that I’m certifiably insane) is constantly looping in my head – a steady stream life’s soundtrack – that puts a bop in my step and a smile in my heart. I’ve been in love with music, and the hunt for that new, new shit since before I can remember. Weekends wasted away as I spent half an afternoon standing by my tape deck with my index finger hovering above “pause” as I tried to make the perfect mixtape. And once I discovered Audiogalaxy my freshman year of high school it was over. My addiction was born, from which I have yet to be cured. But other than the slight schizophrenia and lofty dreams I am a simple woman really. I like pretty things. I like beans and rice. And oh yeah and it’s Shannon, Shannon Elaine. Nice to meet you.

The below listed singles are the top five songs I’ve been listening to as of late, during this cold, dreary winter. Mood music if you will; Shannon Elaine’s chill playlist for an even chillier evening.

1. Lykke Li – “Breaking it Up”
2. Bloc Party – “Hero”
3. Soulsavers – “Paper Money”
4. Amanda Blank ft. Lykke Li – “Leaving You Behind”
5. RJD2 ft. Kenna “Games You Can Win”
