This tape has been on straight replay rotation for a few days now, finally ending ATLiens 3 week reign over my car cd player. Mississippi’s King of All Trades keeps it bumpin’ with the dirty soul beats as in “Country Shit” & “See Me On Top”, but ain’t afraid to take it nice ‘n smooth as shown in the pigskin influenced “No Wheaties”{{1}}. But Big K really shows the possibilities & skills of a MC+Producer in “Something”, weaving his flow in and out of the background beat.
And in “Children of The World”, K.R.I.T. drops a little knowledge and explains why pimp-rap artists such as Pimp C & Too $hort get so much love from even the “conscious” folk.
To put it simply: Rhymes over dimes.
It’s disrespectful I admit /
I was just sayin if you wonder why I called you bitch
Cuz I looked up to the pimps /
I’m not saying it wasn’t wrong, but they had the freshest spits
Also:
According to Big K.R.I.T. representative Goodtalk… “We dug deep into the crates for the music/movie samples! The first person who can tell us which samples we used we will get $1,000 cash and a pan of Jonny Shipes famous brownies.”
Good music, a challenge, AND brownies? Sounds like win-win to me.
Don’t sleep, & download it here
[[1]]Can anyone remember what track this is sampling? I knew it so hard from a Nujabes beat, but can’t find it in my iTunes…[[1]]
