One of the things that really make rap music stand out to me in comparison to other forms of pop music, is the special role of the Producer.
A role that has it’s origins in one of Hip-Hop’s 4 Elements—the DJ—the Producer can not only make or break a track, but can also determine the success of an album (Illmatic), and even that of the headlining artist (Aaliyah). For example, we have a beat coming outta the NYC from Falside, that samples the classic Diana Ross track, “Brown Baby”.
Fashawn takes a moment with Distorition 2 Static to speak on his latest and upcoming projects, including Ode to Illmatic. I’ve been playing that shit on repeat, ill ass project, if I may say so myself. We all know Nas needs to pay off Kelis those ridiculous lump sums every month so a Nas & Fashawn project??? That would be on point. Another thought, how bout some Elzhi over Lee Bannon’s beats? Just sayin’, both of them would get eaten up like a hipster in the hood.
