Mayer Hawthorne – Impressions EP

Mayer Hawthorne – “Fantasy Girl”

Mayer Hawthorne – “Mr Blue Sky”

I’m not the kind of girl who likes R&B at all, but last week I stumbled across Mayer Hawthorne’s cover EP “Impressions” and it has been on repeat over since. Hawthorne’s signature soulful voice re-imagines six tracks from the upbeat “Mr. Blue Sky” (something that doesn’t exist in the Bay Area as of late) to my favorite – Jon Brion’s “Little Person.”

Head over to Stones Throw for the download as well as descriptions from the crooner himself about every track.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

We here at PTGC could make a lot excuses about why we’ve been M.I.A. (no, not the terrible one, just old-fashioned missing). I mean we could wax on and on about how we’re all in our mid-twenties with jobs and mentorships and families and bills to worry about and all that, but that shit is for suckers. Sometimes life comes at you fast, and I’ll just start here by saying…I got five on it:

Cults – “Make Time”

Mayer Hawthorne – “Little Person”

Butch Walker: “Ladies and Gentleman…The Let’s-Go-Out-Tonites!”

Brett Dennen: “Sydney (I’ll Come Running)”

Band Of Horses – Death at a Funeral – (Death By Disco Remix) by Death By Disco

p.s. I know you missed me.

Mayer Hawthorne – “No Strings”

To promote his upcoming tour, Mayer Hawthorne teamed up with Producer Classixx comes out with another “oldie but newie” track about women and the men who (don’t) love them. (yet)

You can download the song here (at the cost of your email address).

Mayer Hawthorne X Stones Throw X HUF

Celebrating the end of a two-month tour in San Francisco, Mayer Hawthorne is set to release a cover of the Tony Bennett classic “I left My Heart in San Francisco,” loaded into a heart-shaped flash drive, and teams up with Stones Throw, HUF, and Freegums to create the commemorative t-shirt, dropping April 15th.
